VALUE DELIVERED
Improved employee health, comfort and morale; increased productivity; better customer
service; lower operating costs; on-time, on-budget project completion despite a demanding
schedule; optimization of investment through follow-up commissioning.
OBJECTIVES
To improve employee comfort in a warehouse prone to very high summer temperatures.
SOLUTIONS
Recognizing the high cost of installing warehouse air conditioning, this client turned to
EMCOR Services New York/New Jersey for alternatives. In response, the company proposed
an innovative, cost-saving option. Taking advantage of a concept known as "breeze cooling,"
EMCOR installed large, airfoil fans above the warehouse's high-traffic areas. With blades 18
feet in diameter, the fans deliver a strong downdraft of 1.1-million cubic feet of airflow per
minute, reducing the perceived temperature as much as 10 degrees. And by completing the
project on a very tight schedule, the company enabled the client to avoid another summer of
discomfort for its employees.
This approach also provided some cool savings. Whereas air-conditioning would have
cost an estimated $500,000 to install and approximately $35,000 a year to operate, EMCOR's
solution priced out at just $110,000 to install with estimated annual operating costs of $5,000.
Finally, as a value-added service, EMCOR Services New York/New Jersey performed
follow-up seasonal commissioning to adjust the system and ensure that both the client and its
employees obtain full value from the EMCOR solution.
